Department History

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature (DFLL) was first established in 1990 as the Applied Foreign Languages Department, back when National Ilan University was still a polytechnical institution. From its founding the AFLD grew steadily with the addition of new faculty members and positive developments in its curriculum. These changes culminated in the 2003 founding of the more comprehensive DFLL, which today includes a Graduate Program focused on English-language productions of Asian Pacific Rim nations. The DFLL also cooperates closely with other departments within the College of Humanities and Management, as evidenced by the 2012 hiring of joint-appointment professors who serve as a bridge of teaching excellence between the department and the Language Center.
